Week 3 update

There were many topics discussed in this week’s lecture that I found very interesting. But I was really fascinated by the Target story. Previous to that lecture, I had no idea that it was possible for companies to track your purchasing patterns so well. Although it’s obviously impressive and no doubt useful to the customer (easier to make purchases because the store’s suggestions are helpful), I find it quite invasive and frankly, pretty creepy. The fact that Target knew that the young woman was pregnant before her own family did, is incredible. That just goes to show how fast digital media is evolving and adapting to us and our needs. It’s so fast, in fact, that us as consumers can barely keep up.

Another thing that I really enjoyed this week in digital media was learning about infographics. I never thought it to be a complex form of media but it truly is. There’s a lot of thought and work that goes into creating a proper infographic and I’m glad I got the chance to learn more about it.

Before my digital media lab this week, I considered simple layouts that displayed information to be infographics because they held information in a form that’s more appealing to the eye. However, a paragraph of text with a fancy border around it cannot be considered an infographic, as we had discussed in class. Infographics are much more complex and play on the information displayed in the text to create more of a visual aid for the readers.

I also had a lot of fun with the in-class group project although we didn’t get a chance to finish our infographic design. Considering the rush, I thought we did a good job.

I’m very much looking forward to conveying my ideas and designs through technology (computer; graphic design) next week in the lab! I’ve had some experience with graphic design but infographics are still new to me… As is blogging, so bare with me!

All in all, I really enjoyed this week in digital media. It was informative and engaging, as always! I can’t wait till next week!

Week 2: Digital Media

What’s is digital media? In my opinion, digital media is everything around us that we use technologically. Whether if it’s to communicate, entertain, socialize, the list is endless. Digital media is so important in our lives.

To prove to us how much this is true, our professor made us keep our own digital diaries. Personally, I wasn’t very surprised by most of my results, as I like to think that I pay attention to what digital media I use in my everyday life.

However, I was pretty surprised about how often I checked my twitter. I like to think of myself as a quality tweeter and only tweeting when it’s essential. But after seeing how often I check my twitter I notice that I’m taking in a lot more than I produce where twitter is concerned. I found this to be a good thing because I’m constantly learning and growing from others people’s tweets (and experiences).

To conclude, I really enjoyed my experience of the digital diary because I found that I learned a lot about myself through it.

Let’s get started!

I can’t wait to learn all the tricks on how to customize it until it’s substantially awesome,

but until then, this short post will have to do.

Feel free to read my “About” page, where I included more information “about” me 🙂
